Raised in the vibrant city of Nairobi, Kenya, Magana is a singer-songwriter and producer with a sonic identity as diverse as her multicultural roots. Born in Virginia, USA, to parents from Uganda and Tanzania, Magana’s musical journey is a rich tapestry woven from the threads of her East African heritage and American experiences.
A true academic of her craft, Magana pursued her undergraduate studies at NYU, where she received a BFA in Acting and Politics. Shortly after, she returned to NYU to earn a Master’s Degree in Performance Studies, focusing her research on Memory and Archive as a Means of Resistance in Minoritized Communities. This academic exploration has added depth to her artistic expression, infusing her music with a profound understanding of cultural memory and the power of resistance through art.
Magana then moved to Cape Town, South Africa, where she pursued a 1-year Higher Certificate in Sound, further expanding her expertise in audio and electronic music production.
Magana’s work serves as a testament to the global connectivity of music, embodying a celebration of multiculturalism and a commitment to telling stories that transcend geographical boundaries.
